Inland Revenue has moved into a new, purpose-built office in Nelson. The building uses a laminated veneer lumber (LVL) structure, which is left visible inside. The natural timber gives the workplace a warm, calm feel.
On the ground floor, the focus is on welcoming the public. There is a clear reception area, easy-to-follow wayfinding, and comfortable interview rooms that balance privacy with good staff visibility. Finishes are simple, allowing the exposed timber ceilings and columns to show how the building is constructed.
The first floor is a modern open-plan office. Workstations, shared spaces, and quiet rooms sit among exposed LVL beams and columns. Staff areas are placed to make the most of natural light and views, with the timber creating a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
