Ora Toa Health Services provides health care across the Wellington region, including programs that raise awareness about community health. Their Newtown Poneke branch had outgrown its current space, so Te Rūnanga O Toa Rangātira decided to move to a more central building that could also handle future growth.
The building came with some challenges. Limited natural light and accessibility issues needed careful planning. Pelorus worked closely with Wellington City Council and gained approval for a creative and cost-effective wheelchair access solution. They also added high-level windows that let natural light reach deep into the building.
Despite these challenges, the Pelorus design went beyond the client’s functional needs. The finished space is bright, welcoming, and comfortable for both patients and staff, creating a friendly community health facility.
