Wellington Airport offers homeowners within the airport’s Air Noise Boundary a subsidised Quieter Homes package. This work is designed to reduce aircraft noise in living and sleeping areas to an average level of 45 decibels, day and night.
Each package is tailored to the individual home, based on how close it is to the airport and how it is constructed. Because closing doors and windows greatly reduces noise, all packages include a mechanical ventilation system. In many cases, ceilings, walls, windows, and doors also need extra treatment, such as added insulation, acoustic glazing, or upgraded seals.
Pelorus works as part of a wider team to carefully assess each home. We measure and draw existing plans and window elevations, document the required acoustic upgrades using advice from acoustic engineers, and oversee the construction process to ensure the work is delivered smoothly and efficiently, every time.
