The CIGA project brought around 1,700 government employees from 20 agencies back to the Christchurch CBD in four purpose-built tenancies.

Led by Statistics New Zealand, this fit-out was the first completed and also houses the New Zealand Transport Agency, Internal Affairs, Te Puni Kōkiri, the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs, the Human Rights Commission, Creative New Zealand, and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority.

The workspace accommodates 400 staff across three floors and 6,000m² of flexible office space. The design blends collaborative zones, quiet areas, and meeting rooms, with the largest floor featuring a shared public reception and a central staff hub that encourages interaction between agencies, maximizing the benefits of co-location.

The interior design draws inspiration from the Canterbury Plains and surrounding mountains, using a calm, natural colour palette and textures that reflect the local landscape. This thoughtful approach creates a modern, welcoming, and contextually connected workplace that feels both dynamic and grounded in place.

A skilled and subtle response from the designers.
