The Whales exhibition was one of Te Papa’s largest and most ambitious projects. Pelorus was asked to turn the designers’ concepts into something that could be built, while keeping the original ideas fresh and exciting.
A big challenge was that the exhibition had to be designed so it could be taken apart, packed into purpose-built boxes, and shipped to international venues for reassembly, over and over.
Pelorus drew on their extensive experience with careful joinery detailing to make this possible. The success of this project has led to ongoing work on exhibition designs at Te Papa and other locations.
